Android Automotive OS and the In-Vehicle Infotainment for car rental services
Android Automotive OS, with its widespread adoption among OEMs, is considered the future of in-vehicle infotainment. Some OEMs have opted to leverage Google Automotive Services, while others have chosen to utilize custom application stores.
Regardless of their decision, there is tremendous potential for developing new Android infotainment applications. In collaboration with one of the leading car rental companies, we have successfully developed a Proof of Concept (PoC) application for In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) that supports the rental process.
The application is fully native to Android Automotive and can be customized to suit various business needs, with the option to deploy it to the Play Store if necessary. It serves three primary purposes:
- Greeting the customer upon entering the car to enhance the user experience and provide information about available services.
- Enabling upselling directly from the infotainment system, such as offering additional insurance or the ability to extend the rental period.
- Providing a convenient way to locate the return point for the contract and offering the ability to navigate to that location using the built-in vehicle navigation system.
